Let it Snow

Many people don't realize that we get snow on the island of Hawaii. There are many gorgeous mornings as I surf where I can see the snow-capped peaks of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa. In the evenings, the cool air blowing down the mountains gives us "chilly" evenings. Not quite parka weather, but just enough to differentiate winter from summer.

Monoprint Mayhem

Had the chance to experiment with monoprints. Hiroki Morinoue along with his wife and daughter, (all amazing artists) were incredibly generous in sharing their knowledge of this printmaking process. They opened up the print studio at the Donkey Mill Art Center in Holualoa for a month long marathon of monoprint mayhem. This was my first experience with the process and these are a few of the results. My personal work seems to dwell on insomnia. Sleep remains elusive.

Change

The endless summers of living in the south pacific are dreamy. You become sensitive to the most subtle changes. But around this time of year I am nostalgic for the dramatic change of seasons on the east coast. The changing colors. The sight and sound of leaves falling off trees and blowing in the wind. Like individual dreams taking off to manifest themselves. This is a personal image inspired by change.
